What Is A Facelift?

A facelift is a surgical procedure that softens the visible signs of aging by tightening skin, refining the underlying tissue, and restoring balance to the face and neck.

Dr. George Min at Newvue Plastic Surgery performs facelifts for patients throughout the greater Seattle area.

Surgery vs. Non-Surgical Options

Many patients come to us after trying fillers, non-surgical skin tightening, or thread lifts. These can be excellent for early signs of aging, but they have limits — they can’t remove excess skin or meaningfully reposition deeper tissue the way surgery can. A facelift is typically the right next step when non-surgical treatments no longer provide the lift or longevity you’re looking for.

During your consultation, Dr. Min can help you determine whether you’re a candidate for surgery or whether non-surgical maintenance is still the better fit for now.

How Facelift Surgery Works

1

Anesthesia

General anesthesia is administered for the procedure to be fully tolerable.

2

Incisions

Dr. Min places small, carefully hidden incisions near the hairline or behind the ears.

3

Tightening & Reshaping

The underlying structural tissue is lifted and tightened, loose excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is allowed to redrape in a natural form. A brow lift and blepharoplasty may be indicated to achieve the most harmonious looking results. Surgery typically takes 4 to 8 hours, depending on the extent of correction and the number of areas involved.

4

Closing

Incisions are closed with attention to seamlessly blending the sutures into the hairline.

5

Recovery Begins

Facelifts are performed at our accredited outpatient surgery center. Our nursing staff will carefully monitor you to ensure you are in a stable and comfortable condition to begin your recovery at home.

Recovery: What To Expect

Recovery varies by technique and extent of correction, but most patients experience:

  • First 1–2 weeks: Noticeable swelling and bruising; rest is best!
  • 2–4 weeks: Most patients feel ready to return to work or light social activity, though some bruising may still be present.
  • Several months: Residual swelling fully resolves, revealing your final results.

Dr. Min will walk you through a recovery timeline specific to your procedure during your consultation.

What Does A Facelift Cost In Seattle, WA?

Facelift cost depends on the complexity of correction needed — there’s no one-size-fits-all number. We’ll provide an exact quote during your personal consultation. Financing options are available for patients who qualify, to help make your facelift more attainable.

Often Paired With

Many patients choose to combine a facelift with a neck lift, brow lift, or eyelid surgery — addressing multiple concerns in a single surgery, a single recovery, and a single round of anesthesia.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do results last?

Most patients enjoy noticeably more youthful results for a decade or longer. The longevity of results depends on several factors — skin quality, genetics, sun exposure, weight stability — thus, results will vary from patient to patient. Natural aging continues after any procedure, but a consistent skincare routine and healthy lifestyle can help preserve your results over time.

Is there an ideal age for a facelift?

Candidacy for a facelift is not a one-size fits all. Depending on how well one’s skin is cared for, patients can range from their 40’s to 70’s — the right timing depends more on how an individual’s skin has aged than on age itself.

A consultation with Dr. Min is the best way to determine the right timing for you.

Will I have visible scars?

Incisions are placed discreetly, typically along the hairline or behind the ears. Healing varies from person to person, and factors like skin type and hair coverage can influence how noticeable scarring is.

Can a facelift be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Facelifts only address the lower third of the face, therefore a neck lift, brow lift, or blepharoplasty may be recommended, allowing multiple concerns to be addressed in one surgery and a single recovery period.

Is a facelift painful?

Most patients experience tightness and pressure rather than sharp pain, and this is typically well managed with prescribed medication during the first few days. Discomfort generally decreases significantly within the first week.
