What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction removes excess localized fat from different areas. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure in Issaquah but is only used to help remove fat deposits resistant to diet and exercise. The procedure is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures requested each year.

Liposuction can be used in the abdomen, waist, back, hips and buttocks, inner knee, thighs, upper arms, and chin and neck. While liposuction does permanently remove fat, it does not address sagging skin. When used alone, it’s most effective in people under 40 who retain some skin elasticity so the skin can adjust to the new body shape after the procedure.

Softer or thinner skin will not reshape as well, and you may need an additional procedure to remove and tighten the extra skin. Liposuction is not an effective treatment for cellulite.

How to Prepare and What to Expect During Recovery

Preparation for liposuction begins with a consultation with our qualified Issaquah plastic surgeon. You discuss your goals and medical history and determine the best technique to address your cosmetic concerns.

It is important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine since liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. Nutritious food and healthy exercise can also speed your recovery and support your health.

Plan for someone to drive you home after the procedure and help you during the first 24 to 48 hours. You can expect some swelling, bruising, and soreness in the treated area. Before going home, you will receive detailed instructions on how to care for yourself. You will wear compression garments to help reduce the swelling and support your new shape as your body heals.

You must limit strenuous activities and exercise for several weeks as your body heals. The results of the procedure become more apparent as the swelling subsides, and you typically see the final results within the first three to six months.
